Why VINE Matters More in Madison County
Madison County's sheriff website has no public booking roster, recent-release feed, or 24-hour and 72-hour release tabs. Its Jail Division page directs inmate questions to 618-692-1064. That phone-first system makes a person-specific VINE notification more useful locally than it would be in a county with a browsable release screen.
The value has a clear limit. VINELink cannot produce a list of everyone released during an interval. It also does not replace the sheriff's release sheet. Notice Versus Official Release Proof
Notification and proof serve different roles. A VINE message helps someone react to a reported change. The sheriff's release record, a signed court order, an IDOC master record, or a receiving agency's custody record documents the event with greater authority. Keep that distinction clear when systems show different dates.
The Circuit Clerk offers copy routes when the public docket lacks detail. A certified order can establish what the judge directed, while the jail can establish when physical processing ended. If IDOC receives the person, its master-record summary is the better source for state sentence history and calculations.
Registries are separate too. An Illinois State Police registry result applies only under that registry law. It is not a general custody locator or release record. One person may have more than one custody record. Compare each agency and identifier rather than choosing the first matching name. A Madison County event can close while an IDOC or other county event opens. Searching again after an alert helps expose that transition.
